What is the Africarium at the Wrocław Zoo?
The Africarium in Wrocław is a unique oceanarium in the world devoted exclusively to the fauna and flora of Africa. The idea to create it arose from the desire to present the diverse ecosystems of this continent.
The project was implemented by architects from the ArC2 Fabryka Projektowa office and opened on October 26, 2014.
It is the first and only place in the world that focuses on African aquatic ecosystems. Thanks to this, the Wrocław ZOO has become one of the largest tourist attractions in Poland, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.
Main Ecosystems of Africarium
The Africarium is divided into several thematic zones that reflect various African ecosystems:
• Mariana Trench : Although not geographically part of Africa, this part of the exhibition showcases the unique life of the deep sea, giving visitors the opportunity to see what life is like at the deepest levels of the ocean.
• Mozambique Channel : This section highlights the abundance of flora and fauna found in the channel that separates Madagascar from mainland Africa. Here you can see, among others : rays, sharks and various species of coral fish.
• Red Sea : This exhibit features colorful coral reefs that are home to thousands of species of fish and other marine life. This place attracts attention with its beauty and diversity of life.
