The closure of one viaduct can turn everyday life upside down – especially when we are talking about the main route from Banino to Gdańsk Osowa.

From April 15, 2025, drivers, PKM passengers, taxi drivers and Uber users will have to prepare for a year of road disruptions and reorganization.

How to avoid traffic jams, not overpay for a taxi and… not go crazy? This guide is your road lifeline.

Closed viaduct in Barniewice and Detour

When will they close the crossing through Barniewice - What is happening and why?

Resident of Banino, get ready for road chaos! On April 15, 2025 , right after the morning rush hour, the railway viaduct in Barniewice will be closed - and not just for a moment, but for about 12 months .

Why? The viaduct is undergoing a major renovation and expansion . A new structure will be built with three railway tracks instead of two, and the road underneath will also undergo a metamorphosis. Sounds good? Yes, but for now it will be difficult .

This renovation is part of a larger project to modernize the No. 201 railway line in the area. What does this mean in practice? That your daily route to Osowa may become a bit (or quite) complicated. But don't worry - we've analyzed possible detours and have a few tips for you.

Detour through Chwaszczyno and Nowy Świat

Detours for drivers – how to get from Banino to Gdańsk Osowa?

Due to the closure of the viaduct, you will have to choose another route. Fortunately, there are two reasonable options - and each of them has its better and worse moments.

🔹 Option #1: Through Chwaszczyno – recommended during rush hours

This is a more local, but often faster route , especially in the morning when the ring road is completely clogged.

  1. Start from Banino and driving along Lotnicza Street towards Miszewo, turn right at Polo Market onto Admirała Andrzeja Karwety Street

  2. Then you turn right towards Chwaszczyno and go straight along the Gdynia road DK20.

  3. In Chwaszczyno, near the Izipak company, turn right into Derdowskiego Street.

  4. Continue towards Adama Mickiewicza Street.

  5. Driving along Adama Mickiewicza Street, then Sobiesława, you will reach Nowy Świat Street at Lake Wysockie.

  6. Finally, enter Osowa – for example, via Barniewicka Street or continue straight along Nowy Świat Street.

🕒 Travel time? Usually 25–45 minutes .

Pros? Fewer ring road traffic jams.
Cons? Local traffic, narrow streets, beloved jumbas, and on Gdyńska in Chwaszczyno - it sometimes gets crowded.

Detour from Banino to Osowa via the S6 Bypass

🔹 Option 2: Via the Tri-City Bypass (S6) – good outside rush hours

Do you like driving longer distances? Choose the ring road. But only if there are no traffic jams .

  1. Entry from Banino towards Gdańsk via Lotnicza Street and then Nowatorów Street

  2. At the turbine roundabout, turn left onto Budowlanych Street.

  3. At the "trucks" you can turn right towards the bypass and there, at the second exit towards Gdynia, you will reach Osowa.

  4. On the Bypass, i.e. S6, you can also exit at the Owczarnia exit, check which way will be better for you. Usually, entering Osowa from the Owczarnia side is faster.

  5. Turning left on Słowackiego Street at the "trucks" towards the airport, you can take an alternative route via Radarowa Street. It is worth remembering in case the bypass is stuck in a traffic jam, which often happens.

  6. And you are there, sometimes even on time.

🕒 Morning? It can be over an hour's ride . Off-peak, more like 30 minutes.

📌 Remember! Check Google Maps or Waze every morning. One small traffic jam can completely change your travel time. And in the morning, every minute counts! The bypass is a lottery, and the worst is from Karczemki to Osowa towards Gdynia. It often comes to a complete standstill.

The shortest route to Osowa from Banino through the forest in Barniewice

For SUV owners - an unofficial "off-road" route through the forest

If you have a car with a slightly higher suspension and you are not afraid of dust or mud – we have something for you. There is an unofficial route that bypasses the entire detour and leads almost the same way as before.

📍 How to go?

  1. From Banino take Barniewicka Street as before.

  2. Just before the closed viaduct, turn onto Lipowa Street .

  3. Follow Lipowa until the intersection of Adama Mickiewicza and Sobiesława .

  4. Turn right onto Subisława, then keep going straight until you exit at Lake Osowskie , on Nowy Świat Street .

📏 Route length: approx. 11.5 km – so really not much longer than before the closure.

💡 But be careful:

  • About 2 km is a gravel road – dusty in summer, muddy after rain.

  • Perfect for SUVs and off-road vehicles, but after a year of driving like that... you might want to replace the suspension 😅

This is a route for those who value their time and have a car ready for challenges. Fast, but with consequences.

PKM train from Banino to Osowa - before it is suspended

Good news – the Banino to Osowa cableway is still running . At least until the end of June 2025 .

If you want to avoid traffic jams and prefer a quiet journey – consider taking the train. Especially in the morning, it may turn out to be the most predictable and quickest option .

Don't wait until the last minute - it's worth checking the schedules now and seeing if you can fit this solution into your daily routine.

During the holidays, unfortunately, it will start in earnest. You will have to travel all the way to the PKM Rębiechowo interchange.

Fortunately, from the perspective of the residents of Banino, it is not as problematic as for residents of Żukowo, Kościerzyna and other towns. For example, to get to the airport from Kościerzyna in the morning, you will need to change buses three times.

So dear resident of Banino, remember, it could always be worse.

What about a taxi? Costs of travel from Banino to Osowa

If you usually take a taxi or use apps like Bolt or Uber, prepare for changes in your wallet . The closure of the Barniewice viaduct means longer routes, and therefore higher bills for the ride. Well, it won't be cheap...

📈 What did it look like before the lockdown?

  • A typical route from Banino to Osowa via Barniewice is about 8–10 km .

  • Cost of the ride? 30–45 PLN , depending on the tariff, company or application.

📌 Fork Assumptions:

  • Uber/Bolt: flat rate + ride time

  • Uber/Bolt with x1.5 multiplier and +10% for traffic jam stops

Remember : Neptun Taxi and Hallo Taxi are companies praised for their high standards and punctuality , especially on routes between Osowa and Banin. But remember - when the route goes beyond the urban zone (and through Chwaszczyno almost the entire route looks like this), out-of-town tariffs come into play , which can significantly increase the bill.

A taxi is convenient, but it's worth checking the cost beforehand - or simply arranging a shared ride with someone in the area.

We, as a local carrier Rabbit-Trans Taxi Banino, are constantly monitoring the situation. If the demand for transport services to Osowa is high, we will prepare a permanent flat-rate offer on this route.
